Medical Assistant RMA Certification

RMAs or Registered Medical Assistants are the ones that have passed their medical assistant programs from an institute accredited by either ABHES (Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) or CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs). If not, they must have at least five years of experience in the same field.

Only after completing your medical assistant studies from an ABHES or CAAHEP accredited institute, you can appear in any medical assistant RMA certification exam held by a certifying agency, the AMT – American Medical Technologists. The title of RMA is bestowed upon successful candidates through this body.

One important thing to keep in mind is that certified status is completely voluntary and not required by the legislation to work as a medical assistant. Employers and other professionals in this field, though, give preference to those candidates who do hold some kind of valid, reputable certifications as medical assistants.

The career opportunities for registered medical assistants are thus far better than for those without any kind of certification. These standards are set by the employers and without a professional certification your degree alone will not hold substantial worth. Wider and better career opportunities also mean more salary and thus, more financial security.

Job stability is also a great factor while choosing the profession of a medical assistant. A report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 35% increase in medical assistant jobs over the period of the next few years.

If you do not have any academic qualification, you can still appear for a medical assistant RMA certification exam held by the AMT if you possess a minimum of five years of experience as a medical assistant.

The certification exams are held in a class-room environment but the studies leading to it can be completed online. Online medical assistant programs hold equal worth to the traditional on-campus medical assistant programs. Often they’re even given preference over on-campus programs because of their affordability and flexibility options.

These options come in handy especially if you are an on-job medical assistant and the lack of an academic qualification is holding you back from getting promoted or gaining recognition that you so strongly deserve. The flexibility of online medical assistant programs will make it real easy for you to resume your studies while continuing with your job. This self-paced and convenient mode of learning will also not affect your professional duties in any way.

Applying for a medical assistant RMA certification test is not at all daunting and can be completed by just filling out few forms. We hope you do that and not let your career suffer just because you didn’t fill out a form or two. We wish you good luck.
